This website has been developed by the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society to help people with Incontinentia Pigmenti (IP)
IP is also known as Bloch-Sulzberger sydrome as only affects girls. It is a genetic condition involving a mutation in a gene (NEMO) on the X chromosome. It affects ectodermal structures (hair, skin, nails and teeth) and also the eyes and nervous system.
Because it affects ectodermal strutures it is a form of ectodermal dysplasia and so is a condition which the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society aims to support. In some countries there are separate IP suppport groups and societies, but in the UK the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society is the recognised support group for IP.
This IP website collects together some information relating to IP. However, for more up-to-date information and to be able to access all the support available go to the main Ectodermal Dysplasia Society website.
